AI chatbot for WordPress
A generic chatbot bolted onto a WordPress site produces confident nonsense, and confident nonsense about your business is worse than no chatbot. PixelChat's assistant answers from a knowledge base built out of your own pages, posts and documents, and declines rather than improvises when it is outside that material.
Building the knowledge base
- Scrape your existing WordPress pages and posts — the plugin knows your site structure, so this is a selection exercise rather than a crawl.
- Add entries by hand for the things that are not written down anywhere yet.
- Import URLs and PDFs for policies, spec sheets and manuals.
- Sync WooCommerce products, if you run a store.
- Duplicate content is de-duplicated on import so the same answer does not appear three times.
The quality of the bot is entirely the quality of this material. An hour spent writing five clear answers beats scraping two hundred pages of marketing copy.
Guardrails and tone
Each tenant sets a business description that scopes what the assistant is for, and an off-topic response for everything outside it. That combination is what stops a support bot from cheerfully answering questions about competitors, legal advice, or anything else you would rather it did not touch.
Handing over to a person
- The visitor asks for a human, or the AI recognises it cannot answer.
- The conversation is flagged and appears in the operator inbox.
- Operators who have opted in get a WhatsApp alert with a deep link straight to that conversation.
- The operator replies in the same thread — the visitor sees one continuous conversation, not a restart.
- Once resolved, the conversation can be handed back to the AI.
Installing it
Install the plugin, connect the site, choose the pages to import, set the guardrails, and turn the widget on. The connection status is visible in the plugin panel, so you can tell whether the site is talking to the platform before you go looking for other causes.
Read the first hundred transcripts
Nothing improves an AI assistant faster than reading what people actually asked it. The gaps in your knowledge base will be obvious within a day, and they will not be the gaps you predicted.
What it costs to run
AI replies are included rather than metered against a conversation allowance that stops the bot mid-month. That matters most in the weeks you least want it to fail — a sale, a product launch, or a delivery problem that generates a spike of identical questions.
Frequently asked questions
- Which AI model does PixelChat use?
- The assistant currently runs on OpenAI's GPT-4o-mini with your knowledge base supplied as context.
- Will it make things up about my business?
- It answers from your knowledge base and is scoped by a business description and an off-topic response. No language model is immune to error, which is why escalation and transcript review matter — treat it as a first responder, not an oracle.
- Does it work on a plain WordPress site without WooCommerce?
- Yes. Product sync is the only WooCommerce-specific part. Pages, posts, URLs and documents all work on any WordPress site.
- Can I turn the AI off and run human-only chat?
- Yes. The inbox works without AI auto-reply enabled.
- What languages does it handle?
- The underlying model is multilingual, but your knowledge base is the limiting factor — it can only answer well in languages your source content covers.
